In Regina Beach, which has always been a popular tourist area, many of the springtime visitors to the Town had no washroom facilities to use when they visited the main beach.
That won’t happen this year. Regina Beach Town Council was advised that public washroom facilities on the main shoreline and secondary facilities near the boat launch will be open in time for the May long weekend. But already, cottage owners have been returning and raising concerns about a bright street lamp in the alley in the main business area near Sara’s On Centre and the Regina Beach Family Restaurant. Most street lights are located on the frontage of properties, and this one those visitors returning say - is too bright. They’ve asked that the light be removed, which will happen soon if others living in that area agree. A letter will be sent to residents directly involved where the lamp is located. If there is an agreement, the light will be removed.
Another discussion centred around the proposed subdivision for a grassy area across the highway from Papa Geordie’s grocery on Highway #54. The plan is a step closer to being developed as a single-family dwelling subdivision. It’s been on a Council agenda in the past. Although before a final decision is made, the developer needs to get all required permits before the area can be re-zoned.
Along with the newly-created Regina Beach Business Association, Council is also looking forward to providing more recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. Discussion is renewed concerning developing a skate park and creating groomed dog trails and walking trails and park improvements. These plans are more than likely to go ahead should a grant application to the Canada Health Community Initiative be approved. The Town is seeking a sum of $250,000 from the Federal Government to make improvements. In addition, Councillor Sandi Metz shared that the Business Association has a plan to join in a gateway project at the top of the hill where bicycles and walking sticks could be rented.
Before going in-camera, Mayor Randy Vollman made a statement that residents need to be diligent when wanting to find out certain information rather than just relying on what they’ve heard or even what they have read “Some misinformation was released previously. We continue to work on the lagoon road project and are working well with the partners involved. Please don’t believe everything you hear or read.” Vollman and all of the Councillors were present for the meeting, which was held via Zoom. However, Councillor Metz and Councillor Barry Wasnik did attend at the location where the meeting is usually held in the Memorial Hall.
