Rev. Herb Bachler, 89, passed away peacefully at home in Red Deer on November 11, 2024, after a long battle with COPD. Born in Torrington, AB, in 1935, he married Myrtle in 1957. They were devoted parents to Janise and Keith.
Herb was a dedicated educator and pastor. He taught science and served as Vice-Principal at Acme High School. In 1974, Herb felt called into ministry and, following seminary, he and Myrtle went on to pastor churches in Southey, Hilda, and Smoky Lake. Later, he became a chaplain at South Country Village in Medicine Hat.
Beyond his professional life, Herb was a talented woodworker, enjoyed crossword puzzles, and was a member of the Medicine Hat Gas Light City Singers. In retirement, he and Myrtle loved to travel in their Dodge camper van to visit family & friends and exhibiting their barnwood picture frames at craft markets.
Herb is survived by his wife, Myrtle, and children, Janise (Frank) and Keith; grandchildren Jessie (Troy), Gracie, Jayden, Tyler (Kelsey), Krysten, Keegan; brother Ernie (Violet) and sisters, Lydia and Wilma, and many special nieces & nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23 @ 1:00 PM, Living Stones Church, 2020 - 40 Ave, Red Deer. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honoured if you made a donation to the NAB Chain of Love orphanage in Brazil.
