"The idea came about in 2022 when Stephanie Caswell, the recreation director, applied for a government grant called the Queens Jubilee Grant," says Sandi Metz, advisor to the historical marker subcommittee. "She felt she would like to do signage along some of the trails in the city and at the same time, the Centre Street Beautification Committee had talked about doing a historical flatstone on Centre Street, so we decided to merge the two ideas and work together." Six people from the historical markets sub-committee participated in the project. Betty Deck, Sandi Metz, Stephanie Caswell, Darlene Frietag, Lisa Gawleg and Bonie Barber as well as four people from the beautification committee for Centre street, Sandi Metz, Betty Deck, Stephanie Caswell and Lisa Gawley.
