But one thing no one has been able to do - is to enjoy reading new books.
Libraries in the Province have been closed for weeks in response to current health concerns due to the COVID-19 virus.
It’s the reason Regina Beach residents, Carman and Shane Willfong, have spent the past month with power tools, wood and hammer.
They have built what is known as a “little library” a place outside their home anyone can visit, take a book or leave a book for others to enjoy.
Carman says she looks forward to seeing how many Beach residents will visit and the little library,
“I think Little libraries like this are a unique idea that brings the community together. Libraries promote literacy and curiosity for reading materials and/or DVDs individuals may not otherwise purchase from a store, and a library creates a community that everyone needs, by allowing you to talk to strangers and creating a sense of neighbourliness.
Even though the small structure is tucked away in a wooded area of Regina Beach, Willfong says already the response has been positive. Books have been borrowed or taken, while other titles have been added to the little structure.
It has been a flurry of positive activity, with both families and individuals visiting and perusing what books are inside the small structure. And, for Carman, it has been uplifting to watch.
Because of this, she says, the little library will remain available to anyone - winter, spring, summer or fall - even after all the self-isolation comes to an end,
“The library will be up for good. We don’t plan on removing it.”
The little library is located across from the seasonal trailer park. Anyone who lives in Regina Beach, Kinookimaw or Buena Vista will know where that is.
