A short ten-minute drive to Last Mountain Lake, its many beach communities, and popular Provincial Park Rowan’s Ravine, Strasbourg is in the heart of hunting country, or a place to explore the beautiful Strasbourg Hills.
Built-in 1904 at the height of Strasbourg’s growth, the bank was on the main floor and the upper area suite housed the Bank Manager and his family. At the time, the bank would’ve been an integral part of the young community.
In 2016 when the building came up for sale, entrepreneurs Cheryl and Terry Deck realized its potential right away. They envisioned a home away from home. A place where the family of area residents could stay when visiting, hunters could rest their heads, beachgoers could relax at the end of a day on the water or the perfect place for a staycation when, in the time of COVID-19, you just want to get away for a break. Ensuring it remained part of the community and that their venture would strengthen and bring value and revenue to the town they grew to love.

“We wanted to give people a destination, a place to stay so that when they came, they would feel like it was their home away from home. It wasn’t meant to be a one-room hotel room because it’s not; it’s a three-bedroom apartment. We wanted to have a temporary housing solution for a small town, but our goal was to bring a bigger town feel to the small town,” said Cheryl.
Cheryl has a background in tourism, noting that “All too often our own province gets overlooked, sometimes you think that you need to go away and drive away to a different province or a different country for that escape, and all too often that escape is right before our eyes.”
The Deck’s first developed the main floor into a mini-mall and heated storage and completely renovated the upper-level three-bedroom suite. Cheryl described the summer she was busy painting the suite. When looking out the kitchen window, she saw the farmer’s crop across the street. She got a warm nostalgic feeling, recognizing that sometimes the simple things in life are the best.

Cheryl feels that Strasbourg and its people will leave an impression on guests to the suite as it has left an impression on Cheryl and her husband, Terry. She noted the town’s support has been so appreciated that they “have fallen in love with the community and the people that live within it. It’s been such a welcoming community.”
The suite is located conveniently near two grocery stores, a liquor and drug store, restaurants and shops.
