The Sunday Family Dinner Fundraiser put on by the “Friends of Govan Community Centre,” was an overwhelming success. The meal received glowing reports from all who attended, many stating they are looking forward to the next event being sponsored. It was noted several times, it was quite unique to have Roast Pork and roasted vegetables at a buffet and the soup...well you just had to be there! Kudos to the cooks.

Tables set and decorated in the Govan Community Centre waiting for the appetites to arrive.
This fundraising dinner was the brainchild of Nancy Parsloe, who first brought it forward in November 2019. She presented it to friends who immediately were on board for a good cause. The group then presented it to the Gym committee and received a wholehearted endorsement. The plan was to provide the atmosphere and ambiance of a family dinner where you can have a meal, relax and just visit and have it coincide with the Family Day long weekend. An evening such as this cannot be achieved without the community-minded volunteers and sponsors who unselfishly step forward to bring off such an event. Thank you to Don and Danita Turnbull, Mortenson Construction, Carries Hairworks, Last Mountain Co-op, and Plainsview Credit Union for their generous donations of raffle items.
Donna Skoropata spearheaded the decorating of the tables and collecting raffle items. Meanwhile, Nettie Pearce, Kathryn Markus, Danita Turnbull, Nancy Parsloe, and Danette Ferraton shopped, cut, sliced, stirred, poured, roasted and fretted over making the hearty meal. Samantha Johnston was kept busy serving at the buffet as well as bussing tables and helping to the end with the cleanup. Larry Hunter was instrumental in providing assistance organizing the tables and chairs as well as ensuring the set up was welcoming to all attendees. George and Carie Flotre assisted with clean up afterwards, which was much appreciated by all who had a bustling day.
The “Friends of the Govan Community Centre” wish to thank everyone who attended the fundraiser. Many filled out a comment card with new ideas, we hope you enjoyed your time with us as we did with you. We have to say, like a hive-minded Arnold might, “We’ll be back!” so watch for our next event.
