Bulyea Winter Carnival Bands
On February 3rd, 4th, and 5th The Bulyea Lions and the B.G.S. Skating Rink board held the Winter Festival and it was a successful weekend. There wasn’t ice in the curling rink this year and there was no 24-hour bonspiel, but there were lots of other activities.
On Friday night, the rink hosted a pub night with many in attendance. A hockey game was played with the Raymore Rebels defeating the Bulyea Bandits. On Saturday morning, a brunch was held in the hall – put on by the Bulyea School students, staff and parents. It was also well attended. Back at the rink, there were three hockey games – two boy’s games and one girl’s game. Lumsden supplied the opposition, and the rink was full of parents, grandparents and friends. The Lions provided each player with food from the canteen and put on a snowmobile rally on Saturday afternoon with an amazing total of 101 riders. The stops were at Bulyea, Silton and Earl Grey. The winners were Dallas Wiers, Wyatt Gorrill and Cass Henfrey.
The Lions put on an evening of food, drinks and music. Jim Chute and Terry Hancock opened the show; Radford Taylor and Jenny Starpepper went on next, with guest vocalist Chelsea Bergeron joining them for a few songs. The hall was full for that event as well, with Jenny Henfrey winning the pot of gold. On Sunday afternoon, there were horse-drawn wagon rides that were supposed to be provided by the Parkin family but due to illness, they had Jordan Lustre of Montmarte bring his team of handsome Belgians up to pull the wagon.
On Sunday afternoon, a street hockey tournament was held in the ball diamond parking lot, with six teams entering. The weather was near perfect. One of the two Slough Shark teams won the event. Everything was well attended, and everyone seemed glad to be able to gather again. The Bulyea Lions and B.G.S. Rink are very grateful for the support. All in all – a great weekend.
