Secretary Maureen Tait read the September meeting minutes, and treasurer Jim Tait gave the financial report. The three card-parties have gone over well, everyone has been following the safety rules, so it’s decided to add some crib and Kaiser games. Schedules are in the centre window and post office. Because of COVID-19, there will be no potlucks, and I’m sad to report no Christmas party this year. Ruth McNichol adjourned the meeting. Just a reminder there’s coffee and Cribbage at the centre on Monday mornings at 9 a.m. for anyone.
There were six for Crib on Thursday, October 8th. Sorry, I do not have the winners. On Tuesday, October 13th, we had three tables for ‘500.’ Winners were Claude McNichol. So nice to see Claude back and looking so well. Second prize went to Ray Purdie, Jim Tait won third. Get well wishes to another one of our longtime members Violet Hemingway. I understand she is at Watrous hospital after a recent fall.
On Wednesday evening, October 14th, we have two tables for Kaiser. Thanks to Dallas for coming to give us an even number. Winners were Jim Tait, second Hazel Eddy and third was me. On Monday, October 19th, eight people showed up at the centre for coffee and for a few free games of Cribbage. On Tuesday, October 20th, we had three tables for Wizard. Big winners for Jim Tait, second Judie Purdie, third prize went to Claude McNichol. It was a great day to be inside with all the white stuff on the ground. Not a good day for doing yard work, although I’m happy to say mine is all done,
On Thursday, October 22nd, there were eight players for Cribbage. The winner was Ross Reynolds, second Walter Scruten and third was Audrey Martenson.
On Tuesday, October 27th, we had three tables for Court Wizard. Winners were Ray Purdie; second was Jim Tait, and third was me. On Wednesday evening, October 28th, we have four players for Kaiser. We played for 2 hours, no charge. So we all were winners.
We haven’t been getting too many for Kaiser. I guess it’s obvious that people don’t want to come out in the evening. I know for one, once it gets -30, I won’t be going out either. So we will decide at the meeting whether to cancel Kaiser or have it in the afternoon. That would work better for the out-of-town people, anyway.
Condolences to Lylie Herman and the Gilbertson Family on the recent passing of Marvin. He will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. He was President of the Nokomis Seniors Centre for five years. Marvin was 82 years old.
So, folks, that’s all the Senior news for October.
