Executive officers are President, Ray Craswell, Vice President, Barb Griffin; Secretary, Larry Doetzel, Treasurer, David Craswell. Welcome to new board member Scott Mitchell. The remaining board members are Dwayne Adelman, Carla Mishak, Rhonda de Hoop, Ken Hogbin, Brenda Huber, Justin Kerr, Stuart Stobart. The board consists of 12 members, and each term is two seasons. In addition to the board members, many other curling club members volunteer to help: flood and paint the ice; create the draws; scrape, clean and pebble the ice each day the ice is used; plan, organize and participate in bonspiels; collect and organize bonspiel prizes, and arrange social events. The support of all our volunteers is greatly appreciated.
The new tin roof installed on the curling rink over the summer by Lakeridge Construction looks really good. Since there was no registration night held this year, all previous year curlers were contacted by phone and some flyers were sent out in the mail. Regular league curling began the week of November 16. Welcome to all of our new and returning curlers! Four teams are curling Monday night, ten on Tuesday, and a few more on Thursday afternoon. Youth curling Thursday after school will start sometime after the New Year. Although there won’t be any bonspiels before Christmas, we hope the annual “Boxing Day Loonie Spiel” can still go ahead. Watch for posters.
A few modifications to curling games are required due to COVID-19 restrictions. There are the obvious ones like keeping your distance from other players, no shaking hands or touching anyone else’s rocks, as well as some which will be a little harder to get used to, such as only one sweeper, and the skip cannot sweep at all! Perfect for those who really don’t want to sweep!
You can still get some curling in this winter by adding your name to the spare list or by signing up for regular league curling after Christmas. Get in motion and join us for some fun at the rink!
