Diane trained under the Grey Nuns in 1973. She immediately began working at the University Hospital in Saskatoon and casually worked at the Red Cross. After 12 years in Saskatoon, Diane moved to Strasbourg, where she worked the remainder of her career.
Dr. R. Patel was the first Doctor Diane worked with over her 35 years at the clinic. She worked with over 10 different doctors, 3 nurse practitioners, over 5 nurses and several other clinic staff. Diane recalled the challenges of being on-call for 22 years, and the introduction of cell phones just as on-call was phased out. How convenient! She remembered taking her girls to the clinic in the middle of the night when Murray was working out of town and celebrating with Dawn Lindeman over a glass of champagne when the clinic got rid of the x-ray machine.
Diane has always spoken fondly of her career, never showing signs of work fatigue or stress. She has always loved her job and the people she worked with. She will miss joking around with her colleagues and her patients, and when asked if she would choose a career in nursing all over again, she replied,
“without a doubt.”
She is grateful to have had such a fulfilling career.
Diane is looking forward to spending more time with her 3 grandchildren, gardening, refinishing furniture, golfing, playing pickleball, volunteering and sharing retirement with her family and friends.
Congratulations on your retirement, Mom! You have dedicated so much time to serving your community and countless others. Being a nurse means you are the heart of the healthcare system, and it is appreciated more than ever at a time like this. Happy Retirement!
