LM Times,
Due to recent decisions made by council, we feel as though the lines between city living and rural living continue to be blurred within the RM of McKillop.
It is our opinion that Council continues to enact broad sweeping bylaws without proper community input. We believe that decisions being made do not necessarily reflect the opinions of most of the residents that reside in the RM of McKillop. Residents who left cities to be amongst nature and animals are not asking to bring in typical city rules and restrictions.
A recent example of a broad sweeping city type bylaw that dramatically changes the life of residents is the McKillop animal control bylaw: “A BYLAW OF THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF McKILLOP NO. 220 TO REGULATE BEEKEEPING, ANIMAL OWNERSHIP AND POSSESSION WITHIN THE BOUNDARIES OF THE RURAL MUNICIPALITY OF McKILLOP NO. 220”. We have asked council to review this bylaw in the next council meeting on Tuesday May 25th. As it currently stands, we believe that a few complaints are resulting in changes that affect everyone, from acreage owners to unorganized hamlets to farmers who may live close to resorts.
- Sincerely, Kara and Darek Tomyn
